A surprise medal

In the words of my mom: OMG x 100!

Yesterday evening, I got home around 8:30, just in time to start watching the election results that would roll in late into the night in Minnesota. Josh was already camped out in front of the TV, and Wish seemed to sense that it was a Really Big Day and took advantage by merrily hopping up to sit with Josh on the No Dog Couch (which he never does).

While he and Josh were quarreling about that, I walked into the kitchen during a commercial break and noticed two medals on the counter with the Gray Ghost 5K design on them. That's weird, I thought. It seems pretty expensive to mail every participant a medal for a 5K fun run.

"Oh, look at our medals!" Josh said.

I flipped one over, and that's when I saw it.

Our superhero group got fifth place in the group costume category!!!

It might have been because of all that pent-up Election Day emotion, but I was thrilled. Thrilled!

I did some research and found out that the Paul Bunyan group won first place, which is obviously 100 percent well-deserved. I didn't try to find out if there were more than five group costumes in the group costume category. And if any race organizers are reading this and know the answer, I don't need to know!

I made Josh take my picture with our prize before we returned to the election coverage for the rest of the evening. (P.S. Of course I have thoughts about the elections - you'll just have to ask me in person for them!)

Pretend Wish is cheering and not yawning, please.

Fifth place! Thanks to the superhero crew for making it happen!
