101 in 1,001

Oh, Reader, I hope you're ready for this.

Tis the season for "best of" year-end lists, and yours truly is not immune.  I'm about to sling an absolute slew of year-end reflection posts your way.  It has been quite entertaining, enjoyable and productive to look back on 2011 and consider how I will remember this year.  I think these posts will be fun for you, too - or, well, at least they will be fun for Miles and Laurel, party of one.  STAY TUNED.

Part of that reflection includes preparation for 2012.  I, like billions of others around the world, am lousy at New Year's resolutions.  The closest I got to fulfilling a resolution was a few years ago, when I got this grand idea to choose 12 mini-resolutions and do one of them every day for all of January before switching to doing the next resolution daily for all of February and so on.  I even started my very first blog to document the whole adventure, then made it about six days of January before I bailed.

So, instead of choosing one or 12 resolutions for 2012, I am choosing...101.

Yikes!  Stick with me!  Don't close your browser window yet!

Instead of 365 days, I have 1,001 days to do it.  I got this sweet idea from my friend Kate and her sister Emily, who are both tackling their own 101 in 1001 lists (see Emily's here - she blogs monthly updates).

The challenge: Make a list of 101 defined, measurable and specific tasks or goals to be completed in the next 1,001 days. I've started dreaming up my own list, and it's definitely not as hard to drum up ideas as I expected it might be. It's also interesting, as Emily writes, to consider what identities you'd like to cultivate via these goals - and it's interesting to think about what I'd like to do/accomplish/be by September 28, 2014, at the end of the project.

So there it is!  I'll share my list in the coming days, and I'll track my progress like they do, via a Google document.  Are there any daring readers that care to join me in this adventure? Speak now!

  2. I totally have one of those lists! Have you visited the "Day Zero Project"? You can keep track of your lists and progress and stuff all on there, it's really handy! (My list ends exactly a year from now . . . I'm only 52% done so I have some work to do!)

I think the 101 in 1,000 lists are a really wonderful way to do some long-term planning that's not TOO long-term and intimidating, like I always think five year plans are.
